    The name of Saffet Yatağan, who left her mark on Cappadocia tourism, will be kept alive on the street in Ürgüp

    The Ürgüp Municipal Council named a street in Ürgüp Duayeri Neighborhood after Saffet Yatağan, one of the veteran names in regional tourism.

    The issue of naming 3 streets in the district was also discussed among the agenda items at the Ürgüp Municipality January Council Meeting.

    The issue of naming a street in Duayeri Neighborhood after Saffet Yatağan, who served tourism in Ürgüp for many years, was also approved by the majority vote of the Ürgüp Municipal Council members.

    Ürgüp Mayor Ali Ertuğrul Bul expressed his satisfaction with the decision to name a street in Fatih Neighborhood after Researcher - Writer Mustafa Kaya, who left his mark in Ürgüp, a street in Duayeri Neighborhood after Saffet Yatağan, a Tourist with a Love for Ürgüp, and a street in Fatih Neighborhood after Ali İhsan Göğüş, the former Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, and thanked the Ürgüp Municipal Council Members and said, “May it be auspicious.”

    Who is Saffet Yatağan?

    He is an entrepreneur who has been operating in other areas of tourism, primarily in hotel management, in Cappadocia for many years. Yatağan, who was among the people who received tourism education at the time, stayed in Cappadocia as a tourist (1962) for 26 years.

    Yatağan, who internalized the culture and history of Cappadocia very well and wanted to introduce these values ​​to the world, had his first experience in hotel management at the Ankara TUSAN Hotel. This was followed by the Efes and Ürgüp TUSAN hotels. Yatağan, who worked as a business manager at the TUSAN Hotels located in these regions, started his own business in the early 1970s. Until the year he left Cappadocia (1988), he managed the Büyük Hotel, Ürgüp Tepe Hotel (1975), Göreme Tourist Pension, Saksağan Hotel and Restaurant, Papağan Restaurant (1976), Çırağan Restaurant and Armağan Disco. In the difficult years when tourism was new and it was difficult to reach the things needed to produce services, Yatağan carried out many activities in the sector; from education to promotion, from entertainment to environmental protection. Yatağan, who was one of the founders of the Anatolian Tourism Businessmen Association (ATİD) (1984), also contributed to many social responsibility projects.

    Saffet Yatağan passed away in Ankara in 2011.
