    General Information

    Population: According to the statistics announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute according to the population data taken from the Address Based Population Registration System (ADNKS) updated by the Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs (NVIGM), the population of Ürgüp City is 23,040 people as of the end of 2019. According to the announced data, the total population of Ürgüp was determined as 35,821 people, including the population of 12,781 people living in villages.  This population consists of 17.495 men and 18.326 women. In percentage terms: 48.84% male and 51.16% female.

    Climate :Urgup has a continental climate. Summers are hot and dry, winters are cold. Due to the geographical structure of the air masses affecting Turkey is affected by the reduced intensity.

    Education: The education and culture status of the district is at a good level. The literacy rate has reached 99%. There is no shortage of schools, buildings and classrooms. In the 2019/2020 education and training year, 5,508 students are being educated by 417 teachers in 294 classrooms in 33 schools. 18 primary / secondary schools, 26 general secondary education, 18 vocational and technical classrooms are the number of students per classroom.

    Cappadocia Vocational High School, which was established in Mustafapaşa Village of our district, continues its education life as Cappadocia University by opening the Ürgüp Campus as well as departments such as Civil Aviation-Tourism Management-Tourism Guidance-Cookery-Handicraft-Computer Programming and Wine Production.

    There is Ürgüp Erol Toksöz Vocational High School affiliated to Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University in the district center. 

    Currently, an average of 5,000 students are studying at Cappadocia University and Erol Toksöz Vocational High School. The first library in the district center was opened in 1851. This library, which still serves under the name of Tahsinağa Public Library, has a rich library and there are library branches in towns and villages depending on this library.

    Economic Structure: The most important source of income of the district is tourism. In Urgup, which is the apple of the eye of the Cappadocia Region with its unique natural and historical beauties, besides tourism, viticulture and animal husbandry activities are also carried out to a lesser extent.

    Geographical Structure: Ürgüp is located between 38'24º-38'45º north latitude and 34'47º-35'08º east longitude coordinates at the southernmost end of the Central Kızılırmak basin in the Central Anatolia region, and the district center is coordinated 38'-38º north latitude and 34'54º east longitude. With a surface area of 574 km², the district center and villages are built on a hilly terrain. 

    It is surrounded by Kayseri Central Incesu District in the east, Nevşehir Province Central District in the west, Nevşehir Province Avanos District in the north, Nevşehir Province Derinkuyu District in the south-west and Kayseri Province Yeşilhisar District in the south-southeast.
