Focus Ürgüp City Center Arrangement Idea Competition was completed with a record participation of 98 projects.

Focus Ürgüp City Center Arrangement Idea Competition, organized by Ürgüp Municipality in the historical center of Cappadocia, Ürgüp, and announced on September 16, 2024, was completed with a record participation. The competition results were announced on November 25, 2024. 98 design teams from all over Turkey participated in the competition, which aimed to present an innovative vision to the city center by focusing on the old bus station area of ​​Ürgüp.

An Inspiring Competition for Cappadocia

The Focus Ürgüp Competition aimed to bring a new social and cultural dynamism to the center of Ürgüp by developing ideas on an island scale covering the old bus station area that will be vacated. Competitors were expected to present creative suggestions on how this area could be transformed into a focal point that would inspire the entire city center.

Jury and Awards

The jury chairman of the competition was Urban Planner Mehmet Nazım Özer, while architects Caner Bilgin and Ramazan Avcı, Landscape Architect Cemil Aktaş and Architect Tuna Han Koç took part in the evaluation process as jury members. As a result of the evaluations made in the week of November 19-24, the jury found 3 projects worthy of an award, 3 projects worthy of an honorable mention and 3 projects worthy of purchase. All projects of the participants, together with the jury evaluation reports, were made available for digital access on November 28, 2024.

Competition Colloquium and Award Ceremony

The colloquium and award ceremony of the Focus Ürgüp Competition will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Turgut Özal Cultural Center in Ürgüp. The award-winning projects are of great importance in terms of sharing ideas that will inspire the transformation of the city center with the public.

The Focus Urgup Competition, which is seen as an important step in terms of design competitions in the Cappadocia region, has opened the doors to an innovative and creative vision for Urgup and its surroundings with this success on the urban design scale.
