Mehmet Dinler
Mehmet Dinler was born on January 13, 1939, in the village of Karain, which is located in Ürgüp.
Due to the conditions of the time and his need to help his family, he could not continue his education after primary school. After completing his military service, he moved to Sweden in 1965 at the invitation of his uncle. He initially worked as a waiter at the Central Train Station Restaurant of the Swedish State Railways. After a while, he took language and culinary courses and worked as a chef, first at the same institution and then in the private sector.
In 1972, while working as a chef at the globally renowned IKEA furniture chain, he partnered with a Swedish chef friend he met there to make joint investments in restaurants. While continuing his investments in the food and beverage sector in Sweden, he also began making investments in Turkey. He purchased a house in Karain village and also made investments in Kayseri and Ankara.
Despite his growing success abroad, Mehmet Dinler never forgot his hometown. He contributed financially to the Karain Village drinking water project and the Karain Village Primary School. In 1970, he brought his two sons, Mustafa (12 years old) and Emin (5 years old), to Sweden, ensuring that they continued their education there.
In 1988, Mehmet Dinler contributed to Ürgüp by providing land for the Ürgüp Diyanet Housing Project and the Fatih Mosque. The Mehmet Dinler Primary School, built with his support, remains one of the largest charitable works of his life and will keep his name alive forever.
Philanthropist Mehmet Dinler passed away on May 19, 1998, in Sweden.
