Mehmet Diker
Mehmet Diker, the son of the late Mehmet Diker and the late Adeviye Diker, was born in 1911 in Ürgüp.
He was one of the five children of the well-known Taflıoğulları family. He spent his life in Ürgüp until the age of 15, then moved to Istanbul, where he started working at a young age.
In 1942, Mehmet Diker married Türkan Hanım, the daughter of Teacher İbrahim Bey from the Müftüzadeler family in Ürgüp.
Having had a successful career, Mehmet Diker gained the admiration and affection of a wide circle of friends in Istanbul.
Due to not having the opportunity for formal education, he placed great importance on culture and education. Throughout his life, he always extended a helping hand to talented young people with an interest in education.
Mehmet Diker was a man who loved his hometown, Ürgüp, very much. His greatest goal was to leave a cultural legacy in his hometown. Building a primary school in Ürgüp became his life's greatest ideal.
Unfortunately, Mehmet Diker passed away on April 28, 1977, and although he deeply desired to see the opening of the school, he was not able to witness it. The young people who graduate from this school and grow up to be useful to our country and hometown will forever honor his memory.
