Marriage Application
Documents Required from Turkish Citizens:

Original Identity Card (New chip-enabled ID card)

Medical Report with a Photo from the Family Doctor

Four passport-sized photographs taken within the last 6 months
Notes:

Applications must be made in person.

If one or both of the applicants cannot come in person, they may apply through a power of attorney. For this, a special power of attorney must be arranged through a notary.

Couples living outside Ürgüp but wishing to marry in Ürgüp can apply by obtaining an approval document from the municipality they are registered with.

Health reports must be signed by the Family Doctor and include a photo. Those coming from outside Ürgüp can bring their health reports with them.

If a woman is divorced, she must wait 300 days from the date of divorce to remarry. If she does not want to wait, she must provide a court decision showing the cancellation of the waiting period.

Individuals who are 17 years old can marry with parental consent. Those who are 16 years old can marry only with a court decision.

If a Property Separation Agreement is to be made, it must be presented with notary approval during the application.

The validity of documents is 6 months from the date they are obtained. The earliest date of documents obtained before the application date will be considered.
Documents Required from Foreign Nationals:

Marriage Eligibility Certificate or Singleness Certificate (Notarized and translated into Turkish)

Birth certificate (Notarized and translated into Turkish)

Original passport and photocopy (Notarized and translated into Turkish)

A document showing the visa validity date (To be obtained from the Police Department)

Travel permission document (For those entering without a visa)

Residence permit or document showing legal stay

Medical report with a photo (Approved by the Family Doctor)

Four passport-sized photographs (Taken within the last 6 months)
Notes:

Applications must be made in person.

The Marriage Eligibility Certificate (also called a Singleness Certificate) and Birth Certificate must be obtained from the competent authorities of the foreign country or from consulates in Turkey.

If the documents from the foreign country have an APOSTILLE stamp, they will be accepted without further certification. If there is no APOSTILLE stamp, they must be translated into Turkish and notarized in Turkey. Then, they must be certified by the relevant Consulate/Embassy and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents notarized by foreign notaries will not be accepted. Translations must be accurate and error-free. The couple is responsible for any spelling, number, or grammatical mistakes.

Documents issued by the Consulate/Embassy will be processed after they are verified by the issuing institution and related correspondence with us, and this verification process can take between 15 to 45 days.

For those who do not speak Turkish, a sworn translator must be present during the marriage ceremony.

Turkish citizens with dual citizenship can apply as Turkish citizens.

Documents related to other citizenships are invalid.

If the foreign country's regulations do not specify a shorter validity period, documents are valid for 6 months from the date of issuance. The earliest date of documents obtained before the application date will be considered.
Regulation: According to the regulation, a marriage cannot be performed on the same day as the application.
Completion of Application and Marriage Appointment

After the necessary documents are completed, a marriage date and time will be scheduled based on availability.

The Marriage Certificate fee and the Marriage Ceremony fee must be paid to the municipality’s treasury in exchange for a receipt before the marriage appointment is given.

An appointment will not be made until all documents in the marriage file are completed. Availability will be assessed on the day the documents are completed.

Marriage witnesses must be present with their IDs during the ceremony. Those without IDs will not be accepted as witnesses.

Couples residing outside Ürgüp’s district, in Mustafapaşa and Ortahisar towns, must apply to the respective municipalities, and for villages (including Sarıhıdır Village), applications must be made to the respective village muhtarlık. The required documents for application are the same.
